Kalymnos Dodekanisou

Kalymnos is an island that is famous worldwide. The reputation it has is not because of the beauty of the island, but because of the activities of the people. The island is also called "The Island of the Sponge Divers". It is a rough, rocky and arid island, so the inhabitants had to turn to the sea. They became the best sponge divers of the world and have “walked" around the bottom of the Mediterranean collecting sponges.

Today the island has one of the largest offshore fleets in the Mediterranean. Some residents even continue the tradition of diving for sponges. The island is not as touristic as other Greek islands. It is well-known, however, for its climbing possibilities and it attracts athletes from around the world.

How to get there

By ship: From the port of Piraeus - daily ferries to the Dodecanese with a stop at Kalymnos. The trip takes 10 to 12 hours. From the port of Kalymnos there is very frequent connection to Mastichari (Kos). The island is also connected with the ports of Rhodes, Leros, Patmos, Symi, Kastellorizo and Astypalaia.
By plane: Kalymnos has an airport which has direct connection to Athens El. Venizelos airport and the flight lasts approximately 40 minutes. Also, there is a connection with the airports of Kos, Leros and Rhodes.
