Kythnos Kykladon

Kythnos is located between Kea and Serifos and it is one of the closest to Attica Cycladic islands. Despite its proximity to Athens, Kythnos has escaped tourist development and preserves its traditional character. It is a mountainous and arid island with many sheltered bays which are ideal for diving. The vegetation is limited to brushwood and aromatic herbs.

Mainly on the eastern coast but also in the mainland, you will find several small villages built according to the traditional Cycladic architecture. The largest villages of Kythnos are Chora and Dryopida. Chora will fascinate you with its whitewashed houses with colored doors and windows, cobbled streets, beautiful squares and churches. On the contrary, Dryopida possesses a neoclassical character with storey houses with tiles, as the locals are famous for their pottery.

The inhabitants of Kythnos are friendly and welcoming and the local economy is mainly based on agriculture and, in recent years, tourism. Many festivals and celebrations take place on the island and both the locals but also the foreigners dance under the sounds of the violin and the lute.

How to get there:

The island is connected by boat with both Piraeus and Lavrion. Depending on the boat (speedboat or ferry boat), the journey may last from 1 hour and 15 minutes to 2 hours and 40 minutes.
Kythnos has a ferry connection to Ermoupolis (Syros) and other Cycladic ports depending on the season.
